A former St Albans school girl is hoping to share her love of music with children at a school in Nepal where she is voluntary teaching for 2 months.

Chloe Rush, ex-pupil from St Albans High School for Girls, will be spending her summer teaching at a school just North of Kathmandu, organised by the charity Hindu Vidyapeeth- UK.

The 20-year-old is now appealing for funds to help the school and is looking for a violin to take out with her.

Chloe is currently studying music at Cambridge University, after developing a passion during her school years.

She has been widely involved with Harpenden Musicale as a violinist and also plays the saxophone and piano, while taking lessons at the Royal Academy of Music.

Chloe said: "Although I will primarily be teaching English, I am also hoping to teach music out there to connect with the students, particularly when a language barrier exists.

"It would be nice to interact through music and share my love of music.

"It would be great if someone could donate a violin for me to take out there. Then I could teach them the violin and ideally I would like to leave the instrument at the school when I leave.

"If anyone has a violin they don’t use anymore or would be willing to donate, then please donate. I would really appreciate it.

Chloe said she is aiming to use the education she received while at the school in Townsend Avenue to help those less fortunate than her.

She said: "I received brilliant teaching while at St Abans High School for Girls and I would like to share this with the pupils I am teaching. "I have always wanted to help others and travel so this is a great opportunity.

"I am really excited. This is the first time I have travelled on my own before, so it is both exciting and intimidating at the same time, but I am sure I will have lots of stories to tell when I get back."

Chloe will head to Nepal on July 26 and hopes to raise £400 for the school in Nepal. She has already organised a cake and plant sale to raise more than £200.
