Children took to the stage to sing, dance and act their way through a play based on some of the best music from the last 50 years.

More than 60 children aged between five and 14 took part in the Legends of Pop show in Wheathampstead’s Memorial Hall in Marford Road on Wednesday and Thursday evening.

St Albans’ mayor Annie Brewster was in the audience for the show, which was put on by Top Hat Stage School.

She said: "The Legends of Pop show was amazing. None of us could have predicted the extraordinary success of Top Hat in Wheathampstead.

"We began with a pilot scheme a couple of months ago and now regularly have in excess of 60 children.

"The commitment and energy the children put into both their weekly rehearsals and termly performances is only matched by the professionalism and dedication of the talented Top Hat acting, singing and dancing coaches."

The theatre group’s principle Warren Bacci added: "Legends of Pop was a musical variety show that showcases some of the best legends in pop music from the 60s right through to the 00s.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

"The kids did extremely well learning their dance routines, performing their drama and singing classics songs.

"I couldn’t be more proud."
