Drivers will be able to protect their number plates by having anti-theft screws fitted for free.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has teamed up with a St Albans garage, M Wilson Motors in Campfield Road, to offer the service free of charge.

The screws made it very difficult for thieves to remove number places.

Inspector Paul Lawrence of the Crime Reduction Unit said: "We have been working with garages across the county to help motorists protect their number plates, which are sometimes targeted by criminals.

"Anti-theft number plate screws are an effective way to prevent your vehicle from being targeted.

"I would like to thank M Wilson Motors for helping us to continue to offer this service and would urge motorists to take advantage of this opportunity to keep their number plate safe."

Fittings, which take about ten minutes, can be booked by calling 01727 803539.
