Residents in Wheathampstead will have the opportunity to dig out some old treasures when they are joined by two popular experts from the BBC Antiques Roadshow at a valuation day.

The show’s regular Eric Knowles will give a few tips to guests during the Antiques Valuation Day in St Helen’s Church, Wheathampstead on Tuesday, September 10 from 11 am.

The ever-popular valuations of china, glass, silver, jewellery, clocks and watches, books and pictures will be given by expert Rupert Powell, a specialist in books and manuscripts.

Chair of The Friends Ruth Coles said: "The Friends are very grateful to local fine art valuer Jane Anderson, once again for organising this Valuation Day.

"Her contacts and her professional expertise are invaluable and will ensure that this is another exciting event."

The day will include an array of related displays and stalls, a raffle and competition, with light refreshments available and valuations will from noon to 4pm.

Admission to talk is £10, valuations cost £10 and a combined ticket is £18. There is free parking in the village car park.

All proceeds go to The Friends of St Helen’s Church, a registered charity which supports the church’s building and conservation area.

Over the past five years The Friends have been able to contribute £230,000 to essential building repair and refurbishment costs, with more major works planned.
