The Museum of St Albans wants to hear from people who own Steampunk art, photography, fashion items or inventions.

The museum is searching for Steampunk-inspired items to display in its forthcoming Gadgets and Goggles exhibition.

The exhibition will be hosted by St Albans District Council’s museum service from January to March 2014.

It focuses on Maurice Collins’ extensive collection of gadgets dating from Victorian times through to the Second World War and the museum plans to complement the Collins collection of problem-solving gadgets with Steampunk’s creativity.

Steampunk is a fantasy genre inspired by industrialised nineteenth century western civilisation, often linked to the Victorian era and the American Wild West. It focuses on inventions for an imaginary world where steam, rather than electricity, is the main source of power.

Residents who have have Steampunk artwork, fashion or inventions can submit these for exhibition by contacting Adam Ditchburn, Learning Officer, by October on 01727 751815 or by email at adam.ditchburn@stalbans.gov.uk
