A university student living with his mum and dad in London Colney has been sentenced to a community order for a drugs offence.

In addition, Imrul Ahmed, 23, will have to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

At St Albans Crown Court on Friday, Ahmed, of Manor Road in London Colney, appeared for sentence having earlier been convicted of one offence of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug of Class A to another.

The court heard how on September 1 last year Herts Police, armed with a search warrant, went to another address in London Colney.

There, they searched a man's bedroom and found five wraps of cocaine. However, it was Ahmed's fingerprints that were found on four of the wraps and he, too, was subsequently arrested.

The court heard that Ahmed is living with his parents and four siblings and is doing well at the University of Hertfordshire, where he is studying for a degree in business.

The court was told that there was no evidence of any financial gain for Ahmed and his supply had been limited.

He was given a community order of 12 months and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, which will be under the supervision of the Probation Service.
