McFly drummer Harry Judd to sit on Battle of the Bands judging panel
Updated 11:41am Wednesday 12th March 2014 in News
McFly drummer Harry Judd will put aspiring youth bands to the test when he sits on the judging panel of a Battle of the Bands fundraising competition in Harpenden next month.
The contest has been organised by Mr Judd’s wife Izzy, in honour of her brother, Rupert, who suffered from serious brain injuries after a car crash in 1997.
The event is also supported by Harpenden Lions to raise money for the Eyes Alight Appeal, which was set up in March 2010 by Mrs Judd and her family.
Mrs Judd grew up in Harpenden, and married Mr Judd in St Nicolas Church, Church Green, in December 2012.
She said: "Eyes Alight is totally inspired by my brother Rupert.
"My husband Harry and I are very excited to be collaborating with Harpenden Lions for ‘Battle of the Bands' which will take place on Rupert's Birthday in our local town of Harpenden. The event will raise funds for the Eyes Alight Appeal and particularly for Kent House, where Rupert lives, for a much needed extension to their communal living space.
"We couldn't think of a more fun and appropriate fundraiser and we hope that the Battle of the Bands competition will educate and inspire young local musicians and all for a wonderful cause close to our hearts."
The appeal supports those cared for by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).
The competition, will take place at Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday, April 5, where bands will get the chance to perform original compositions and covers, judged by Mr Judd and Ed MacFarlane and Edd Gibson from Friendly Fires.
The competition kicks off at 7:00 pm and doors will open at 6.15 pm. Tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 for under 18s , which are vailable from the Harpenden Musicale Shop in Sun Lane.
