Drivers in St Albans are being offered the chance to make their vehicles safer with catalytic converter marking.

M Wilson Motor Repairs, on Campfield Road, will be marking catalytic converters for free, for two weeks from Monday April 7.

The initiative is aimed at drivers and, in particular, local businesses that may have fleets of vehicles that could be targeted by criminals.

The catalytic converter marking kits have been supplied by the Community Safety Partnership (CSP).

Inspector Paul Lawrence from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Crime Reduction Unit said: "Forensic marking is very effective at deterring thieves from stealing catalytic converters as they help to trace them to the vehicle they came from and therefore the rightful owner.

"Catalytic converter theft is still an issue in the county and the cost of replacing one can run into thousands of pounds."
