Children donned their onsies at a St Albans school to raise more than £300 for the Autistic Society inspired by eight-year-old pupil Abi Kavanagh.

Garden Fields School pupils swapped their traditional uniforms to wear onsies and pyjamas for World Autism Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 2, to say farewell to Abi, who will joining a new school.

Abi’s mother, Sharon Kavanagh’s, continues to fundraise in aid of the Autistic Society after her daughter was diagnosed with the condition at the age of three.

The mother-of-five said: "It was a lovely day, it brought a tear to my eye watching everyone turning up it there Onesies and pyjamas - most of the teachers dressed in onesies as well.

"I helped for the day in my Minnie Mouse onesie too and Abi loved wearing her Mickey Mouse onesie as Mickey mouse is Abi’s favourite.

"Abi had a lovely day and thought it was funny everyone wearing their onesies. We raised £314.63 which is lovely."

During the day, pupils met Sally Gallospe, a representative from the Autistic Society during an assembly and tooke part in a design a onsie competition.
