A record-breaking 1,500 children took part in five weeks of fun and activities throughout the school holidays.

Play in the Parks returned this summer providing the opportunity for children between the ages of three and 12 years to join in free supervised play sessions at 15 designated parks across the district.

Councillor Annie Brewster, portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage, said: "The Play in Parks sessions were more popular than ever over the summer with record numbers of children taking part all across the district."

A variety of local sports clubs and groups were involved with Play in the Parks this summer. Among them was dance company Popdance which delivered high energy dance sessions giving children and leaders the opportunity to sing and dance to songs from One Direction and Frozen.

Play in the Parks will return for Easter 2015.
