St Albans Youth Council highlighted the need for better support for young people with mental health issues as part of a presentation to the City Neighbourhoods Committee (CNC) last week.
Youth Council representatives, Ellie Webb and Ellie Appleyard, explained to St Albans City and District Council’s CNC that there a need for better training for teachers in Hertfordshire so that they can provide support to students with mental health issues.
The Youth Council also revealed at the meeting on September 30 that they had launched a campaign against the use of conflict minerals - which are minerals mined in conditions of armed conflict and human rights abuses and are sold or traded by armed groups.
The group of young councillors further informed the committee that plans are being developed to create a Youth Cinema Night at the Maltings Theatre. It is working in partnership with the venue’s operators, OVO, and Youth Connexions.
