A village flower festival was a blooming success this year, with more than 1,500 visitors.

Sandridge’s 40-year-old annual harvest flower festival at St Leonard’s Church was extended to three days this year as part of the Sandridge900 celebrations - inspired by the church’s 900th anniversary.

More than 40 arrangements designed by representatives from local churches and societies, by children and the residents of the two care homes in the village, represented themes from ancient Egypt and Roman treasure to Sandridge’s pioneering potato planters.

Knitted flowers, sugar flowers and photographed flowers were also included.

The Lychgate war memorial was decorated in the same way as it was when it was finished in 1920, and a World War I centenary concert by community choir Village Voices filled the church to capacity.
The festival took place last week.
