More than 100 people attended an award ceremony for the Harpenden In Bloom Competition.

The Town Mayor, Councillor Mary Maynard, presented the prizes to winners at an awards reception in Park Hall.

Awards were presented to St George’s School for the Best Secondary School Garden, Roundwood Primary School for the Best Primary School Garden and Charlie Wheeler for the winning design of the Harpenden In Bloom 2014 logo.  

The Best Front Garden was judged to be that of Mr and Mrs Wood and the Best Back Garden that of Mr and Mrs Thompson. Samuel and Rosie Warren won the Tallest Sunflower Competition with a very impressive sunflower measuring 365cm.  

Mandy Thompson won the Best Allotment in the East Harpenden Gardening Club and Peter Baikie was awarded the prize for Best Allotment in the South Harpenden Allotments and Gardens Society. Awards for the Best Pub Garden were given to The Engineer and The Carpenters Arms.

First prizes in the Wildlife Photography Competition were awarded to Katharine Tate (over 18 category), James Goodman (age 15-17 category), James Langley (age 11-14 category) and Ben Whiting (10 and under). 

Anyone wishing to get involved in Harpenden In Bloom is invited to the winter planting day on Saturday, October 25, meeting at the War Memorial at 9.30 am.
