More than 400 schoolchildren in St Albans were taught about democracy by the Mayor.
St Albans Mayor Geoff Harrison visited the five to 11-year-olds at Killigrew Primary School on Thursday, January 15 to discuss the subject, one of the topics in the national curriculum.
Wearing his mayoral regalia and accompanied by the Macebearer, Councillor Harrison described his role and responsibilities and told the children how he came to be Mayor.
Speaking after the event he said: “The children were a most attentive audience and seemed very interested in how local democracy works.
“Who knows, in the future some of them may become our local councillors or Members of Parliament.”
