St Albans today woke up to another frosty morning - but temperatures are set to rise later this week.

Today's bitterly cold weather will be followed by freezing temperatures across the district tonight and patchy frost across the county.

However, temperatures over the weekend are forecast to reach 6C.

Hertfordshire County Council's gritters have been out in force treating the county's roads during the cold spell.

The county council’s highways contractor Ringway has had 58 gritter crews ready around the clock from October 1 until April 30 to cover almost half of Hertfordshire's entire road network – which is more than 1,500 miles.

Hertfordshire’s salt stocks are reportedly high and the county’s 1,000-plus salt bins are topped-up as temperatures remain close to freezing.

So far, Ringway has completed 30 gritting runs and used more than 5,000 tonnes of gritting salt across the network.
