Night time works on the M1 south of St Albans could cause delays and disruption next week.
A new emergency crossover barrier within the central reservation will be installed between junction 2 (Burnt Oak) and junction 4 (Elstree).
The barrier will allow police to divert traffic across to the opposite carriageway in the event of a prolonged closure due to an accident.
The work will from Thursday, February 19, until Sunday, March 8, and will require the introduction of narrower lanes and a speed restriction of 50mph in both directions.
The southbound entry slip road and overbridge from the M1 London Gateway motorway services at junction 3 will also be closed overnight during the work.
Work will take place between 10pm and 5am on Monday to Thursday nights and between 11pm and 6am on Fridays.
