One hundred pancake race competitors showed their flippin’ skills to the St Albans Mayor and moiré than 400 spectators on Shrove Tuesday.

The annual Pancake Race, contested by 16 teams, and the Flippin’ Walkers Race, hard fought between nine teams, took place in St Peter’s Street, St Albans.

The team from Fitness First won the pancake race with 1Life Batchwood finished second and St Peter’s Panners third.

Rennie Grove Colour Blasters won the Flippin’ Walkers Race with Kingston Smith Floppers finishing second and Hare and Hounds third.

Mayor Councillor Geoff Harrison presented frying pan awards to the winning teams.

He said: "I want to congratulate everyone who competed in the 2015 St Albans’ Pancake Races, especially the winning teams - Fitness First and Rennie Grove Colour Blasters.

"Thanks are also due to the organisers from the council who worked so hard to make the event happen. All the competitors deserve praise for their skill, enthusiasm and hand/eye co-ordination.

"I particularly want to congratulate those who raised money for charity and the spirited competitors who wore fancy dress."

Councillor Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Localism and Community Engagement, said: "Many congratulations to all the competitors and especially to the winners of the prestigious frying pan awards. It was great that so many people came out to enjoy the fun in St Albans City centre."
