Two mums from Redbourn are organising a charity fun run.

Louise Salter and Ruth Upjohn decided to launch the Redbourn Fun Run to provide the local community and surrounding villages with a family-centred sporting event.

Ruth Upjohn said: "We want to make this event fun and interactive to encourage families from the local area to embrace the health benefits that participating in sport can bring.

"It is increasingly hard for busy families to find the time to incorporate exercise into their packed routines, so we hope that by providing a ready-made event such as the Fun Run, this will make it easier for them."

The organisers held a competition to design the logo which will appear on the Fun Run T-Shirt and announced the winner as four-year-old Ben Palmer, who is in the nursery year at the school.

Ben painted the bottom of his trainer and imprinted it onto paper with the acronym ‘RFR’, to come up with the winning logo.

Olympic Triathlete Sian Bryce presented Ben with his award during morning assembly at Redbourn Infant and Nursery school. Sian competed in the Sydney Olympics in 2000 where she was also the Team GB captain.

The fun run will be raising funds for the local Redbourn infant school and will take place at Redbourn Recreation Centre on Dunstable Road on Sunday, June 7.

There will be two runs - a 1 kilometre run at 10am, aimed at children and a 5 kilometre run at 11am for older children and adults. For more information, click here.
