Two people have been arrested during dawn raids in St Albans in which a large amount of cocaine and cannabis was seized.

Officers from Hertfordshire Police were involved in the week-long raids as part of a crackdown on drugs in the city.

Police hailed the raids a great success and said they were the culmination of an intelligence-led operation lasting many months.

An 18-year-old woman was given a warning, another 24-year-old was given a caution and an 18-year-old man was fined as part of the operation devised to target suspected drugs suppliers in St Albans.

A 39-year-old man from St Albans was fined £80 for possession of cannabis during one of the raids in St Anne's Road.

A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply after a house in Spruce Way was raided.

The other warrants were executed in Hatfield Road, Tavistock Avenue, Artisan Crescent, Pemberton Close, Wilshere close and Lawrence Road.

Cocaine, cannabis, cash, and drugs paraphernalia were all seized during the raids.

Sergeant Scott Curran who leads St Albans Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We are determined to drive down drug related crime in St Albans and deal with anyone suspected of being involved in such offences robustly.

“Through our own investigations and information from the public, we can work together to keep St Albans safe and I would therefore strongly encourage people to always report suspicious activity to us should they come across it.”
