A crowdfunding page set up in the memory of Harley Tobias has raised nearly £1,000 since being set up yesterday.

The 16-year-old from St Albans was travelling alone in a black Vauxhall Astra that crashed into a parked camper van in Marshal’s Drive at around 2am last Tuesday.

The teen suffered serious head injuries and died at St Mary's Hospital on Wednesday night.

A Go Fund Me page was set up by a family friend, who said the money will go towards a "good send off" for the teen.

The fundraising campaign (pictured below) has since raised £960 of of the £1,000 target.

Some 64 people have donated to the campaign with tributes and comments still flooding in.

One donator said: “Every mums worst nightmare. Hope you get to give your boy the send off he deserves."

Another read: "Forever remembered, forever missed. Rip Harley,"

The Go Fund Me page reads: “Harley was a 'live wire' who adored his mum, his family and his friends. He was a sea cadet who gave his time and passion into helping others.

"He was a great kid... And he's paid the ultimate price."

To mark what would have been Harley's 17th birthday yesterday, friends and family gathered at Longacres to release lanterns (pictured below).

The teen's funeral will be held at West Herts Crematorium on Friday, October 13 at 3.20pm.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
