Drivers are advised to avoid part of St Albans after a fire.
Herts Fire Control tweeted at 6.49am that fire and rescue services had been called to a building fire in Chequer Street.
The fire crews remained on scene for more than two hours.
They left the area just after 9am, but investigators returned later this morning to establish what caused the fire.
Details of what started the fire are not expected to emerge until later this evening.
