A community group is celebrating their 60th diamond year in style.

The St Albans and District Soroptimists held their annual club birthday party marking 60 years since they first opened.

Joan Williams, the Club’s longest serving Member presented the president of the company Denise Powell, from Harpenden, with a framed photo to thank her work as the president last year.

Mrs Powell said: “I am very excited to launch our diamond year ahead and the plans for 60 for 60 where we will complete 60 projects in our 60th year; large and small, fun and more serious.

“This is a way of getting us engaged with Soroptimist project work at all levels so that when we come to look back on our special year, we will have even greater pride on our progress and successes.

“We are developing and evolving ways in which each and every Club Member, whatever their situation, can contribute at a level that suits them.

“In this way we hope to do more, to attract more new energetic members and to retain the wonderful women we already have.”

The Club was very sorry that Helen Francis is retiring from Soroptimists and presented her with a bouquet to thank her for 34 years of service and as a gift for her recent diamond wedding anniversary.

Mrs Powell also thanked Mrs Francis’ husband for being such a great Soroptimist supporter.
