A school has been rated Good by an education watchdog.

Margaret Wix School in High Oaks, St Albans, was rated Good by Ofsted inspectors after a two day inspection in March.

Inspectors highlighted the pupil’s enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning adding that staff and students’ pride in their school was clear to see.

Head teacher Damien Johnston, who took over the role in September 2015, said: “The successful outcome of the inspection is directly linked to the high expectations the staff have of all the children and the willingness of the children and families to respond to the expectations set.

“Teachers ensure that every child is given clear, concise feedback in all subjects, with opportunities for follow-up and response.

“This has had a positive impact on the progress the children have made.

“The school community are pleased with the outcome of the inspection and are looking forward to improving the school further.”

The report also praised the early years teaching and was above the national average number of Key Stage 2 pupils reached the expected level of attainment in reading, writing and maths.

The governors and staff were also praised for sharpening up the controls on pupils who were falling behind, meaning they were swiftly identified and provided the support they need to quickly catch up.

Chairmen of the governing body, Shaun McLean said: “A school does not receive an assessment of good without a huge amount of effort and dedication by everyone – teachers and support staff who ensure that every aspect of the school is running well and offer the best opportunities for our children to learn, and parents who make sure that they children come to school every day ready and prepared to learn and also help them at home.

“We must remember that this has been a two year journey since the last Ofsted inspection.

“Our thanks go to the previous head teacher and former members of staff who have also played a significant part in advancing the school to this level.”
