A woman was attacked by a man as she was jogging.

The 23-year-old was jogging along the footpath, in the direction of Sandringham Crescent, when she was approached from behind by a man.

The man then put his arm around the woman’s neck and tried to pull her towards him.

The woman screamed and managed to get away from the man, who left in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 40 and 50, between 5ft 8 and 6ft tall and of athletic build with broad shoulders.

He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up and black gloves.

The incident took place in Jersey Lane at around 7.25pm on Saturday, July 9.

Detective Constable Amy Dixon, who is investigating, said: “We are doing all we can to trace the person responsible and have increased patrols in the area. It is currently being treated as an isolated incident.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to take simple steps to help keep themselves safe while out and about.

"Try and stick to busy areas and go jogging with a friend if possible.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact DC Dixon via the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference F1/16/2616.
