Outages on Virgin Media broadband have been branded “unacceptable” by an exasperated customer.

Robin Barrett, of Yardley Court, Harpenden, has been blighted with loss of internet signal at home for three days last week and all of this week.

In contact with other Virgin customers, he believes the problem has occurred throughout South Hertfordshire in the Hemel, Enfield, Luton and Watford areas at least.

Mr Barrett was critical of the “platitudes” Virgin customer services have sent his way without any noticeable fix to the system.

He said: “What is going on at Virgin Media? The whole region seems to be having multi-day outages.

“Have they been hacked? Why are they so coy about the cause of this widespread outage?

“A fix has been promised every day since, and now I have a text saying it will be another two days.

“They are treating us customers as fools – this is completely unacceptable.

“They are causing themselves big brand damage here.”

Virgin Media has a system in place which means broadband traffic is spread through two routes to ensure the service works efficiently.

According to a spokesperson they did not name, there has been “a few issues with this configuration” in the Hemel area, which is why customers have had a disrupted service.

The spokesperson said: “Our Data engineering team have been working hard to resolve this and a fix was put in place last night.

“We will be monitoring the fix over the next few days to ensure customers are receiving services as normal.

“We apologise to our customers in the Hemel area who have been experiencing issues with their broadband.”
