A craze of pinning scarves to trees is warming hearts across St Albans.
Items of warm clothing are deliberately being left in public places amid freezing temperatures across large parts of the city.
Many of the scarves have been accompanied with notes explaining that they are available for anyone who needs them - and requests to pass the favour on in the future.
Some scarves in the High Street have been left with the message: "I'm not lost! If you are cold please take me."
