Hundreds of people gathered for the Christmas carnival on Sunday.
The whole of Harpenden was transformed into a winter wonderland during the carnival with local choirs and drama groups performing on the stage.
There was also Farmers' Market stalls and a busy business fair. The cast of Cinderella, who are performing at the Harpenden Public Halls over the Christmas period, also attended the event.
As the sunset the Christmas lights were switched on by the Town Mayor Cllr Nicola Linacre and the Mayor's Christmas Poster competition winner Imola Moody.
Cllr Linacre said: "I think this year's lights are stunning. There is so much to enjoy with different decorations from giant baubles that look like bubbles to twinkling stars, spectacular columns and last but not least a truly beautiful Christmas tree."
Visitors were also able to meet Santa in his grotto.
