A family are raising money for their five-year-old son who has was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

When Jonty Burger was born five years ago he was lifeless and he had no heartbeat.

Miraculously, doctors were able to resuscitate him and he was rushed into intensive care, but as a result of the oxygen deprivation, he was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

The family held a gala dinner two years ago to raise money to help him and nNow five years later his family is organising a second gala dinner to raise the much-needed funds to make sure Jonty has the best possible life.

His father Gareth Burger, 39, who works at St Albans School, said: “We are organising another gala black tie event in November to raise money for Jonty at Woollam Playing Fields.

“He attends the Footsteps Centre in Oxford for physiotherapy, which costs around £2,000 per two week block.

“We do get money from the Government but in Jonty’s short lifetime we have already needed around £90,000 to give him the best possible life.”

The family, who moved to a bungalow in Welwyn Village, are working to raise money to provide Jonty with the necessary home adjustments, costing around £35,000.

They are also looking to buy an electric wheelchair costing around £7,000 giving himfor his independence at school.
