A new museum has had a further £319,000 of improvements planned.

The Town Hall in the centre of St Albans is being transformed into a £7.75million museum and art gallery, which has seen £1.3million donated already.

An update on its progress was heard at the St Albans City and District Council's cabinet meeting on Thursday, where it was announced additional enhancements will be funded in part from reallocation within the project’s original budget and a further £181,000 to come from other existing council budgets.

Cllr Annie Brewster, who leads on sport and culture for the council, said: "Our mission is to create a truly fantastic Museum and Art Gallery that will be a major visitor attraction and will greatly improve the district’s cultural life.

"We are well on the way to doing that and these additional investments in the building will ensure the finish is of the highest quality."

The enhancements to be added include underfloor heating, higher-level security measures and a quality finish on the Edwardian courtroom's wood panelling and feature lighting.
