A Member of Parliament has overseen the launch of a new post office open seven-days-a-week with “impressive opening hours”.

Anne Main MP cut the ribbon on the new St Albans Post Office on May 10 to mark the official re-opening of the Beech Road site. 

The new location at the Shell King William Service Station is just 25 metres from previous branch which closed in April 2017, and the new opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 6am – 10pm, offering 112 hours of service each week.

“The branch had been sorely missed by the community, so this re-opening is great news.”

The service station is part of Motor Fuel Group, which has its headquarters in St Albans and is the first Post Office within a MFG service station.

Tony Walker, trading director for Motor Fuel Group, said: “We are very excited to have our first Post Office as it is vital to a community.”

Pirigash Raveendram, contract manager of Shell King William Service Station, said: “The community was upset when the Post Office closed, so I am really pleased that I could make changes to my shop to add a Post Office counter.”

In addition to longer hours, customers will also have access to banking services for personal and business accounts.

Tom Moran, Post Office network development director, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community, so we are delighted to be able to restore Post Office services at the heart of the community.

“This is the first Post Office within a Motor Fuel Group service station and it is great to have a new, enthusiastic business partner.”
