An organ theatre has received royal recognition for its charity and community work.

St Albans Musical Museum Society, otherwise known as St Albans Organ Theatre, has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service after 40 years.

The award was announced by the Lord Lieutenant for Herts, Robert Voss, on the Queen’s official birthday.

He will present the award at a 40th anniversary event at the theatre on June 16.

Ken Slow, chairman of St Albans Musical Museum Society, will accept the award on behalf of all volunteer helpers past and present.

He said: “As we approach our 40th anniversary, we are all extremely proud to receive this prestigious award from Her Majesty, The Queen.

The dedication of all the volunteer helpers at the society ensure that the theatre remains open for generations to come so that the musical instruments and the unique venue can be enjoyed by all.”

The award is the highest accolade that can be bestowed on a charitable organisation and recognises the extensive amount of voluntary work at the theatre, based in Camp Road, St Albans.
