- The incident took place on the road's anti-clockwise carriageway, between Junction 22 for St Albans and Junction 21 for the M1.
- A lorry and a Ford Fiesta were involved in the collision.
- Two lanes (of the motorway's four) had been closed.
- Members of "all emergency services" and traffic officers from National Highways attended the scene.
- Both vehicles have been recovered, and all lanes have been reopened.
- One person has been taken to hospital.
