URGENT repaving has been carried out, thanks to steadfast residents.

Pictured is the pavement outside Pizza Hut in Hatfield town centre before Labour Party members Maureen Cook and Margaret White campaigned with Labour Parliamentary candidate Mike Hobday to have the problem fixed.

The loose paving slabs have since been repaired but Mr Hobday is now anxious that the bricks, which have been left lying at the side of the site, might be thrown through shop windows.

"We have had a victory by getting the pavement fixed but it could be marred if something happened with the loose slabs which have been waiting there," he said.

The pavement, which started crumbling apart because of tree roots growing, had sections of the paved surface lifted up and relayed to provide a more even footpath.
