With Christmas approaching, families across the country will be looking to enjoy festive activities and events.

Hertfordshire is no exception, and is blessed with a wide range of wintery pursuits.

With that in mind, here's seven great ideas to fill the colder months.

1. Christmas at the Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead

The one place in Hertfordshire where winter never ends, Hemel Snow Centre, is putting on a number of Christmas activities.

Sledging, Christmas party nights and ski holiday camps are all available at the site.

The company's website states: "At The Snow Centre we offer a range of options to make your festive season go with a bang, from a two or three course Christmas dinner, some snowy fun activities with your friends or join us for one of our party nights.

"The choice is yours!"

2. Christmas at Wrest Park, near Silsoe

An interactive lights trail is among the attractions at Wrest Park this Christmas.

Festive food, warming cocktails and "surprises are around every corner" are all promised.

The Heritage England website states: "With a host of light installations designed to fit in with the natural surroundings, expect the unexpected and allow the Christmas spirit to take over as you immerse yourself in a world of seasonal sparkle and festive cheer."

3. Hogwarts in the Snow, Leavesden

Winter is returning to Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Leavesden with 'Hogwarts in the Snow'.

A "blanket of filmmaking snow" will adorn the famous sets of the Harry Potter franchise, whilst "a mouth-watering banquet of roast potatoes, peas, turkeys, and puddings aflame" will be set up in the Great Hall.

The attraction's website states: "You are invited to experience a very ‘Harry Christmas’ at the Studio Tour during Hogwarts in the Snow, the most magical time of year, when iconic Harry Potter sets are dressed for the festive season."

4. Christmas at Wimpole, near Arrington

A "magical illuminated trail" will return to Wimpole Estate for a third time this Christmas.

The Sony Music event will take place between November 24 and December 31, and will feature a long glowing tunnel and huge feathers floating into the sky.

5. Santa Spectacular, Willows Activity Farm

"There’s no better place to bring your children to meet Santa and enjoy a fabulous festive family day out" is the message from Willows Activity Farm this Christmas.

A minimum of four hours are advised to enjoy the Santa Spectacular, which also includes Santa’s Toy Shop, "Create-a-Cuddle", a toy workshop and gingerbread decorating.

6. Christmas at Ashridge, near Little Gaddesdon

Described as a "magical journey into a festive wonderland", Christmas at Ashridge features festive workshops, Christmas afternoon teas and a carol service.

'The Nutcracker: A Magical Family Adventure' is an "immersive and enchanting" live production held at the house.

Every child with a ticket to the Nutcracker event will also have an opportunity to meet Father Christmas and to receive a small.

7. Christmas at Paradise, Paradise Wildlife Park

Paradise Wildlife Park's "Santa at Paradise" will take place every weekend from December 2, and every day from December 20 to December 24.

Father Christmas' grotto will be featured on the park's Safari Stage, while a fairy light tunnel will be available for visitors to enjoy.

Santa's reindeer will also be present, in the park's Woodland Walk area.

8. Letchworth Ice Rink, Letchworth Outdoor Pool

Letchworth Outdoor Pool is set to become Letchworth Ice Rink from Saturday (November 18).

Children as young as four can take to the ice, with group bookings available for adults and children alike.

A café at the site will be offering a variety of festive treats and hot drinks.

Cllr Steve Jarvis, of North Herts Council, said: "We had a great response last year with positive feedback. It will no doubt be a spectacular addition to the Letchworth scene for the Christmas period.”
