St Albans cinema The Odyssey will mark its 10th anniversary next month with a showing of a surprise film.

The event will take place from 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 21, with the movie beginning at 7.30pm.

The surprise film, rated 15, will last for one hour and 42 minutes, with no adverts or trailers taking place.

Last year, The Odyssey celebrated its eighth anniversary, due to the impact of Covid-19. The global pandemic ruined The Odyssey's "cinematic flow" at the time.

However, the team at the cinema "couldn't wait" any longer, with the site's anniversaries now "back on track".

In February 2023, those who attended were also treated to birthday cake and a range of complimentary drinks.

The London Road cinema screened 'What's Love Got to Do With It', a day before it's release to cinemas nationwide.

The building itself dates back to 1908, but was left derelict for around 15 years prior to its purchase in 2010.

The venue was then taken on by the same team that resurrected The Rex in Berkhamsted.

A local fundraising campaign - which raised £1 million in just a few months - helped to purchase and restore the cinema, which had been split into four screens, back to its 1930s era single-screen design.

A range of historic details have either been restored or recreated within the building.

A spokesperson for the cinema said: "2024 is our official Big Birthday Year - and we are making the most of every moment!
