HATFIELD councillor Stuart Pile has responded to claims that he failed to stick up for the town over a controversial waste plant.
Councillor Pile, who sits on the Tory-controlled county council cabinet, was accused by Welwyn Hatfield Labour parliamentary candidate Mike Hobday of pretending to oppose the proposed heat and power plant in Travellers Lane, opposed by residents who fear it will cause noise and traffic.
Councillor Pile has told the Review that the waste plant has not been "set in stone", but the cabinet has merely approved the site in principle to secure government funding.
He insists he will oppose any firm plan to build the plant on the site, known as New Barnfield.
