A HARPENDEN farmer has been nominated for an award by the Countryside Alliance for his efforts to publicise his profession to the public.
Ian Pigott, who runs Annabel's Farm near Kinsbourne Green, will be up against Clarissa Dickson Wright and Janet Street-Porter in the contest to be named the campaigning group's ”rural hero” at a House of Lords reception on March 18.
Countryside Alliance awards director Jill Grieve said: “ Ian dreamed up Open Farm Sunday, a national event that opens the countryside up to a whole new audience and promotes farming in an accessible way. Over 400 farms held events on the third annual Farm Sunday on June 12, 2008, and Ian’s simple of idea of getting farmers to recognise the importance and significance of reconnecting with the consumer has become a summer must-do.”
