A HARPENDEN schoolgirl who tested positive for swine flu is recovering.
It was confirmed yesterday the Year ten pupil at St George's School has contracted the virus. A letter was sent to parents informing them of the news.
Paddy Storrie deputy headteacher at the Sun Lane school has told the Review the pupil fell ill nearly a week ago and was tested as a precaution.
He said the results came back positive and she has been taking the drug tamiflu.
Mr Storrie said: "The student was immediately isolated and seen by a GP after which she was given tamiflu.
"We spoke with the Health Protection Agency (HPA)and took advice from them."
Mr Storrie said the HPA advised them they would not need to close the school and staff continue to keep a careful watch on developing illnesses within the school.
He added: "The student is recovering and will return to school in due course."
