Edgware Town are on the brink of extinction.

This is the stark warning from outgoing chairman Anthony Rosier who has quit the club this week citing the community's lack of support as his main reason for leaving.

The beleagured Ryman League Division Two club currently lie three points off the bottom of the table, at the time of going to press, and Mr Rosier claims they are losing thousands of pounds per month.

"Nobody seems to really care about this football club," said Mr Rosier. "I don't see the point of losing up to £50,000 a year if the people of Edgware aren't interested in supporting the club.

"I believe the club won't see the season out as it will be closed by the end of February. We have a CVA creditor's voluntary agreement for £1,000 each month and if that money isn't paid the club will be liquidated."

Mr Rosier's successor will be Christian Ekedi, a Harrow estate agent, who remains upbeat about the club's survival hopes.

A former manager in his own right, having coached a side to win the Umbro Cup in Manchester, Mr Ekedi, has promised to deliver stability to the club and is confident his contacts with African stars such as Arsenal's Lauren will generate revenue for the White Lion Ground side.

But, like Mr Rosier, he is also mindful of the need to increase the club's fanbase. "We have more away fans than home fans at our ground and that's really not good enough, so I'm hoping we can raise the profile of Edgware. But the most important thing is that we stay up this season," said Mr Ekedi.

"I have already brought four exciting players to the club on my recommendation, and I'm confident we will have a side strong enough to challenge for honours next season.

"Yes the club has financial problems but this club is capable of raising between £3,000 and £4,000 per month it just hasn't been run like that.

"I have got good contacts with a lot of Afro-Carribbean players and if I can get people like Lauren and Geremi down here it will certainly help to raise the awareness."
