ELDERLY people across the district face losing their entitlement to taxi vouchers if a recommendation to amend the scheme is approved at a council meeting tomorrow night.
People over the age of 75 and those with a permanent disability who do not have access to a private car are currently entitled to £60-worth of taxi vouchers per year.
But under proposed changes, residents will only be eligible if they have a disability and receive either disability living allowance or attendance allowance, and do not have access to a car.
If the restrictions are approved at a St Albans District Council cabinet meeting tomorrow night, those over the age of 75 will only receive the vouchers if they also have a disability. The new conditions could come into effect as early as April 1, 2010.
The Review revealed ealier this year that the council was reviewing the scheme as a result of the current economic slump and budget constraints.
The authority has admitted its budget for 2010 to 2011 will not cope with the growing demand for vouchers.
