SIX arrests were made during a police crackdown on criminals using the district's roads, thanks to a new number plate recognition trap.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal when they were pulled over on the London Colney bypass.
Officers uncovered fascias for the front of ATM machines, which can be used to copy credit cards during a search of their vehicle.
The group have been released on police bail until November 7.
Dennis Boyle, 37, of Britton Avenue in St Albans, was arrested for drink driving in Cambridge Road, and Piotr Cichocki, 32, from London, was arrested and charged for driving without insurance.
Four vehicles were also seized and three people were issued with fixed penalty notices as part of Operation Sentinel, which uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition to catch criminals.
