A 48-YEAR-OLD Welwyn Garden City man who went on trial this week accused of raping a teenage girl took his victim abroad to terminate a pregnancy, a court was told today.

Stephen Bailey, of Boundary Lane, denies raping the 13-year-old girl, an allegation dating back more than five years. He also denies four charges of sexual activity with a child and two counts of ABH.

St Albans Crown Court heard today that Bailey flew the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to Spain for an abortion after he discovered she was pregnant.

It was claimed Bailey escorted the girl, who was 16 at the time, abroad to terminate the 27-week pregnancy because he feared it was his child, an accusation he denies.

The Crown's prosecutor told the court the abortion did not go ahead and the pair returned from the trip.

She said Mr Bailey purchased DNA kits from the internet and became obsessed with the child's conception dates following its birth.

The trial continues.
