A DRIVER had a lucky escape in Welwyn Garden City last night when his parked car suddenly burst into flames.
Firefighters from Welwyn Garden City were called to the burning Alpha Romeo parked in Campus West car park, behind the police station, at around 8.30pm.
The fire ignited as the driver started the car up. Thankfully he managed to escape before flames engulfed the vehicle’s bonnet, its dashboard and passenger’s side.
One crew using breathing apparatus and a hose reel tackled the fire.
A faulty engine is thought to have been the cause.
