A FAMILY escaped a kitchen fire at their St Albans home last night.
Two crews from St Albans tackled the fire at a townhouse in Riverside at around 9pm.
Luckily a couple and their young son, believed to be around four or five, escaped the blaze unharmed. It is thought the man was cooking when an extractor fan above the stove caught alight.
It took around 40 minutes for firefighters to bring the blaze under control, but it left considerable damage to the kitchen, as well as smoke damage. The couple delivered biscuits to the London Road fire station this morning as an offer of thanks for firefighters efforts.
