HELIOSLOUGH'S railfreight project is deeply flawed, and its destruction of the Green Belt between Park Street and London Colney can not possibly be justified, Strife's barrister Paul Stinchcombe is telling the enquiry.
The council chamber, attended by merely a handful of observers for most of the hearing, has almost filled up with Strife's supporters for their champion's closing statement.
He told inspector Andy Mead: “Under the spotlight of scrutiny, the appeal proposal has been exposed for the Trojan horse development local residents always feared – a strategic railfreight interchange for which not only can no guarantee given that a single train will ever be permitted access, but one which can never be used.
“To prevent that outcome, and the wholesale undermining of the Green Belt it would entail, Strife asks you now, this time finally, to halt this spurious rail-related proposal in its tracks.”
