THIEVES have stolen ticket machines at Westminster Lodge car park for a second time this year, St Albans District Council has revealed.

Two of the three pay and display machines were stolen from the car park at the bottom of Holywell Hill in the early hours of December 10.

Police are investigating the theft.

Andrew Robertson, head of environmental and regulatory services, said: “There are CCTV cameras in place on the site.

"The machine in front of the Abbey Theatre is still in use and users will be expected to collect a ticket from this machine.

"We apologise to them for any inconvenience this might cause and are working on getting a solar-powered replacement for the two stolen machines within the next week.

"Temporary signage will be installed to ensure that users are directed to the nearest operable machine."

A car parking machine was stolen from the same site in the summer.
