A FORMER staff accommodation block at the QEII hospital in Welwyn Garden City is about to be demolished to make way for extra public parking.
The two-week demolition of Burnham House near the casualty department is scheduled to start on Monday, February 8, but preparatory work has already begun on a project that will provide new staff accommodation and 60 extra parking spaces.
Hospital boss Nick Carver said: "We are delighted to be able to satisfy finally the conditions of the original planning conditions set out for the new accommodation block at the QEII, Birch Court, which has proved a great success – many of the flats are rented to our staff.
"This is a tribute to the partnership that was created between the trust and the Origin Group, who built and run the facility. "
