“When a great moment knocks on the door of your life, its sound is often no louder than the beating of your heart and it is very easy to miss.” This is a quote is from my friend’s autography. The author, who leads a busy life as a well-known traditional singer, always maintains an enviable air of calm about her. Her book is about her relationship with God through sound (Theosony), or lack of it!

‘Nothing resembles God as much as silence’. It is by listening with the ear of her heart that she understands God’s will and gains her strength. Sitting in silence allows the mind to open up. Listening with the heart rather than the judgmental mind, gives us greater understanding of those around us.

This last year has been a real financial struggle for our family yet is has had great moments and blessings. The more we had to get back to basics, the more we were in touch with the true essence of life itself. The great and silent moments just kept on happening and we kept on noticing them!

A no-frills lifestyle with new opportunities for silence is a chance to make the most of this one life we have to live. Maybe world leaders, politicians and married couples could give one full day to listening with their hearts. Now, wouldn’t that do wonders for world peace!
