KEN CLARKE, one of Britain's best known and most charismatic politicians, will be the guest of honour at a business lunch in St Albans next month.
The former Chancellor, now Shadow Business Secretary, will speak at a St Albans Chamber Of Commerce lunch at the Old Albanians sports club off Harpenden Road on Friday, March 5.
Mr Clarke, after a period as Home Secretary, was Chancellor of the Exchequer under John Major from 1993 to 1997, overseeing Britain's steady recovery from recession.
His blunt, straightforward and often humorous speaking style earned popularity, but his enthusiasm for Europe cost him Conservative support, and he was twice defeated in leadership bids.
Tickets are available from the chamber of commerce for £35, or £30 for members, plus VAT.
