THREE people were arrested and two vehicles seized during a police crack down on criminals using the county's roads.

The Automatic Number Plate recognition, code-named Operation Sentinel, targeted criminals and unsafe drivers using roads in Welwyn Hatfield on Tuesday night.

Sarah Evans, 42, of Windsor Road, Welwyn, was stopped in Brockwood Road, Welwyn Garden City, and arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

She is due to appear before St Albans Magistrates Court on June 8.

A 46-year-old man from Hatfield was arrested on suspicion of affray and a 21-year=old man, also from Hatfield, was arrested on suspicion of public order following an incident in the Airfield Pub, Lemsford Road, shortly after midnight.

Police also seized two vehicles and issued four fines for a range of offences, including driving without insurance.

ANPR inspector Andy Piper said: “While using ANPR to target criminals on the roads of Welwyn and Hatfield, the officers noticed a suspected drunk driver and were near the Airfield pub when the disorder occurred, so dealt with those incidents too.”
